Europe is grappling with a resurgence of coronavirus cases.

ヨーロッパはコロナウィルス感染の再拡大の対応に追われている。

In Spain — where the daily count of new infections has risen to more than 4,000 — authorities on Monday introduced a partial lockdown of areas in and around the capital Madrid.

スペインでは一日の新感染者数が4000人を上回っている。地元当局は月曜日、首都であるマドリード周辺の一部の地域をロックダウンした。

Police set up about 60 checkpoints on roads into the areas, requiring people to show a permit before entering or leaving.

警察はその地域の約60カ所の検問に配置され、出入りする前に許可証の提示を求める。

Britain has the highest number of coronavirus-related deaths overall in Europe. Recently it saw more than 4,000 new cases confirmed per day.

イギリスはヨーロッパ全体でコロナウィルスによる死者数が最も高い。最近では一日あたり4000人以上の新感染者が出ている。

UK government officials warned that without further action the country could see 50,000 new cases a day by mid-October. They added that could mean about “200-plus deaths per day” a month after that.

イギリス政府は「何らかの対応をしないと10月中旬までに5万人の新感染者が出る。その後、1日の死者数がさらに200人増えるかもしれない」と警告している。

From 28 September people will be required by law to self-isolate, those breaking the rules face fines starting at £1,000, increasing up to £10,000.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson is studying the introduction of new measures to fight the virus. He wants to avoid a nationwide lockdown that could inflict severe damage on the economy.

Amid concerns over the coronavirus resurgence, stocks in European markets were hit by a wave of selling after trading opened on Monday.

コロナ感染再拡大の懸念の最中、ヨーロッパ市場は月曜に売り注文が膨らむ展開となった。

The key index in Frankfurt fell by some 4.4 percent from the previous session’s close. Paris stocks sank about 3.7 percent, and London was down 3.4 percent.

主な市場の株価指数の終値は先週と比べてフランクフルト市場でおよそ4.4％、パリ市場でおよそ3.7％、ロンドン市場でおよそ3.4％、それぞれ値下がりした。
