イギリス、新たに軍艦をホルムズ海峡に送る

Britain is sending a second warship to the Strait of Hormuz amid an escalation in tensions with Iran over recent incidents in the region.

この地域での最近あった事件でイランと緊張が高まっている中、イギリスはホルムズ海峡に新たに軍艦を派遣しようとしている。

The British defense ministry said on Friday that it will dispatch the HMS Duncan to the Persian Gulf to escort British-flagged merchant ships through the region.

金曜日、イギリスの国防省はその付近の海域を通るイギリスの商船を護衛するために、ペルシャ湾に駆逐艦「ダンカン」を派遣するつもりであると述べた。

It said the vessel will replace the HMS Montrose, which will go in for maintenance. But British media are reporting that the two vessels will work in concert.

Relations between Iran and Britain have become strained since authorities in Gibraltar seized an Iranian oil tanker off the British territory. The authorities arrested the ship’s crew members including the captain.

ジブラルタル当局がイギリス領沖合でイランの石油タンカーを拿捕して以来、イランとイギリスの関係は緊張している。当局は船長を含む船の乗組員を逮捕した。

Iran is demanding the release of the ship and its crew, and has hinted at taking retaliatory action.

The British government said on Thursday that Iranian boats recently tried to block the passage of a British tanker near the Strait of Hormuz, but pulled back after warnings from a Royal Navy vessel.
